Introduction

Greetings to all fellow classmates, course mates, lecturers, fellow university mates and random people who dropped by from search engines.

The aim of the AIMST BDS Batch 1 blog is to chronicle our oral health education visits to various kindergartens around the Sungai Petani-Semeling-Bedong vicinity.

As part of our fifth and final year community oral health syllabus, we were required to conduct oral health education visits to various preschools in order to educate the children about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene.

This took place on two dates (11th October 2009 and 25th October 2009) and the 37 of us from the first batch were divided into five groups. Our groups have been predetermined by the school of dentistry for clinical sessions, tutorials and even hospital visits. This has been our predetermined group since our third year and it has been a joy working and learning together on so many assignments for the past few years.

For the oral health education visits, we were encouraged to come up with materials to introduce the importance of oral health to children. These are the same children who are due to come in for treatments under our Paediatric Dentistry clinical sessions. The oral health visits also meant to play a part in fostering closer ties between the dental students and their future paediatric patients.

Instead of a formal report on the activities we have carried out, our lecturer Dr. Kalyan has suggested that it would be best for us to blog about our visits. All five groups will be posting up their entries on this blog with the appropriate tags to ease navigation.

To ease navigation, please click on the links on the left such as "Visit 1" under the 'Blog Visits' subtitle beneath each group list. In addition to that, you may also click on the tags if you want to read about a specific group's activity or the going-ons at a particular kindergarten.

Please feel free to drop a comment below should you have any further enquiries.
